The story "Hills like White Elephants," was very
odd but relates to today's society. It started with them drinking beer at a
train station while waiting on the train to arrive. The guy was talking to the
girl about getting an abortion. The girl knew if she didn’t get an abortion
that he would most likely leave her. That relates to today’s society because a
lot of girls go and get abortion because they know the man won’t take care of
the baby and walk out of their lives. I think that the man really wanted the
baby but he knew with them traveling the baby wouldn’t get brought up right.
There is a lot of things that could have happened but we will never know. It
was a really good story but a little weird because I didn’t know what the
operation was at first until I looked it up. Also I’m not sure is the man a
mistress or is it her boyfriend? Maybe he is a mistress and that is why he
wanted her to get an abortion.
I do agree that the woman was probably his mistress. You could definitely tell that he didn't want her to have the baby, but was trying to make it seem like it was her decision and not his. That has happened to friends of mine, and it is just sad to see. But I guess it will always be a part of life (being manipulative and what not.)
